Plot[]

The episode begins with an advertisement from Rook Unlimited, giving insight on the city and Jonathan Rook's influence. The screen then zooms out to show a train of civilians being attacked by a monster. The monster is soon intercepted by the Flex Fighters: Stretch, Omni-Mass and Wingspan.

The narrative then jumps to two days earlier. Jake Armstrong shuts off his alarm clock and attempts to get a bit more sleep but is soon awoken by his father video calling with his "before-school schedule". Meanwhile, Nathan Park is rudely awoken by his rambunctious little brothers. Jake and Nathan each prepare for school in their respective homes. Jake's morning is filled with training and exercise, while Nathan consistently gets the short end of the stick amongst his big, hectic household. The two friends finally meet up at the school entrance.

As they walk through the school's corridors, Jake is stopped by Principal Wilson. He reminds Jake that he has to tour a new student today. The new student is revealed to be the snarky and laidback Ricardo Perez. He arrives 15 minutes late and is wholly unimpressed by the academy. Having been to five schools in three towns in two years, he thinks all schools are exactly the same under the paint job. However, Jake gradually reveals that the Academy for Future Leadership defies expectations and stereotypes. They then head to botany class where Jake, Nathan and Ricardo get assigned to complete a group report.

Elsewhere, in a Rook Unlimited storehouse, overworked employee Don Robertson is ranting into an earpiece about all the chemical shipments being dumped on him when he is understaffed. He interrupts himself when a forklift operator arrives with several barrels. Don at first attempts to stop the shipment from entering but eventually concedes after being informed that the orders came from Jonathan Rook himself. When a careless worker attempts to unload a barrel, a drop of "pure Flexarium" slips out and bounces all over the place at rapid speed. It almost hits the worker but Don catches it just in time. He then orders the workers to leave the barrels by the door, carefully.

At the Armstrong residence, Jake and Nathan attempt to complete their group report while Ricardo plays games on his tablet. After a brief conversation, the three decide to take a break and do some roof parkour together. Unfortunately, the trio fall through a ceiling window and into a Rook storehouse. They accidentally activate a forklift, toppling some barrels and causing a cylinder to explode.

At Rook Tower, a worker announces there's been a break-in at one of Rook's secondary storage facilities. Her boss, Malcolm Kane enters, asking if it was an individual named Blindstrike. She tells him it is unconfirmed. He then orders her to call in the Delta Team. Back at the storehouse, Jake, Nathan and Ricardo get to their feet. They've been doused in a blue, slime-like substance, but they are otherwise okay. The boys attempt to exit the premises but are almost arrested by Rook Security. This is when they discover their newfound stretch abilities. They use their powers to evade capture. Ultimately, they decide to lay low until they figure out what's happened to them.

At the storage facility, an officer analyses the blue goop with a hand-held device and it is concluded that the compound is Flexarium. Kane asks who's responsible for this. In response, Don asks "So now it's a problem?" expressing that Jonathan Rook has had him handling the substance by himself when it requires 10 people. Kane tells him to get the place cleaned up and Don is left alone again. As he stands there, a strange, greenish-blue substances creeps out of a pipe and crawls toward Don. He attempts to analyse it but it quickly engulfs him, transforming him into a monster.

At the Armstrong residence, Jake's exploration of his powers are interrupted by his father's return. Mr. Armstrong tells Jake that some hooligans broke into a Rook facility but they have no idea who did it. Their conversation is interupted by Mark's phone ringing. He turns on the television to reveal a monster had attempted to attack Jonathan Rook. As Jake's father heads back to work to deal with the situation, he is contacted by Nathan and Ricardo. The three ultimately decide to use their powers to help defeat the monster.

From a helicopter, Jonathan Rook attempts to make an appeal to Don but fails. Don's attack causes him to fall from the helicopter. However, he is rescued by Jake. Nathan rescues the pilot while Ricardo stops the helicopter from hitting civilians. Kane immediately recognizes the boys as the ones who were at the storehouse. The trio manage to isolate and attack the monster. Unfortunately, this only results in the monster splitting in two and escaping. They attempt to pursue it, but the episode ends as they are arrested by Kane and his team.

We never wanted or expected to get these strange powers. So far, we've only used them to run from the authorities and keep ourselves out of trouble. But now's the time we find out: are we supervillains or superheroes?

Food for Thought[]

Spoiler warning!
This section of the article contains major plot details about an upcoming episode.
  • Kane expresses that the Flexarium should have been under lock and key at the main lab rather than the storehouse. He asks who's responsible for this. In response, Don says "So now it's a problem? It wasn't when Jonathan Rook assigned one person, me, to do the work of ten." This whole set-up may hint at Jonathan's ulterior motives and lack of regard for others.
  • Jonathan goes out of his way to try and appeal to Don in spite of the danger he's in. This action was likely taken in order to maintain appearances in the public eye.

Trivia[]

  • Though Blindstrike is not present in the episode, it is the first time the ninja is mentioned.
